Teach Your Children Well …

When raising children, don’t overlook the need to intentionally teach them practical integrity. The value of doing right can’t be over-emphasized. Jesus taught us that nothing on the outside of a person defiles them, but what comes from the heart (Mark 7:15). Remember the saying; “Talk is cheap?” It certainly can be. But if our personal relationship with the Lord is going to be believable, it has to be more than cheap talk. It must be the living, heart-transforming kind of relationship that alters our actions, and proves our words are true.

Training children to do the right thing, all the time, can be tiresome, because of the repetitive nature of your input/ instructions, but the results (righteous adult children) will be worth the price of your commitment to the process. Payment now (faithful effort, personal integrity of parents, watching your mouth and your attitude, going to church, loving God) will reap the greatest rewards imaginable.

If you are willing to sacrifice whatever energy, time, or commitment to the process of training by example, then you are truly wise, and your reward will be great (seeing your children grow strong in the Lord, and receive the promise of eternal life).  Read the rest of this entry »

Remember the song? “Sometimes He holds us close. And lets the wind and waves go wild. Sometimes He calms the storm. And other times He calms His child!”The Lord doesn’t always take away the storm from your life, but He promises to be there with you DURING every stormy moment of life! In the middle of your maelstrom, He will speak “Peace be still” to your troubled soul, if you can get your eyes off the storm, focus your attention on Him, and believe His amazing, unfailing promises.

To His agitated, fearful disciples, Jesus spoke these assuring words, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid – believe in Me!”

But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Wherefore he saith, ‘When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.Ephesians 4:1-17 (KJV)

The answer to the question, “What is the purpose of spiritual gifts?” is more complex than you might think. According to scripture, there are numerous reasons why God gives spiritual gifts to us.

Jesus said, “To whom much is given, much is required” (Luke 12:48). Therefore, with every bestowed gift comes the responsibility to use the gift fully, and well, for the glory of God. When we understand that the gifts of God, give us something to contribute to the furtherance of the Kingdom of God, it will transform the way we live, for only through the fulfillment of our divine call, will we begin living as people with a mission, a plan and a purpose for our lives.

The Purpose of Spiritual Gifts:

1) For Christian Service (Work of the Lord).

Although it shouldn’t be surprising, some people are quite shocked to discover that the “work of God” actually involves WORK. Too many people think the ‘work of the Lord’ goes no further than public ministry. And even then, they don’t understand how much effort – behind the scenes – goes into making our services, and churches, run smoothly.

You must understand, that while Christian service may seem glamorous, when the lights are on, and the music is playing; public ministry involves more work than you realize, and that public ministry is not the only work that needs to be done in the church.

Did you notice, that volunteers for public ministry are seldom in short supply, but locating sufficient, gifted workers for behind-the-scenes ministries can be an extremely difficult task. Read the rest of this entry »
